ON SATURDAY May 27, the election campaign ahead of the June 17 general elections was officially launched.

Political parties have three weeks until the elections to try to attract voters. Polls suggest there is much to play for, as many voters are still undecided.

Apart from regular election rallies, parties can advertise in public as well as private media, including on TV and radio stations.

Unofficially, however, the election campaign started several weeks ago with election posters and billboards and party meetings with the electorate, the Pravda daily wrote.

In the upcoming general elections, 21 political parties will be competing for seats in parliament. About eight parties are given a chance of winning seats, according to the latest opinion polls.

The left-wing Smer is the clear leader, according to voter preferences, with around 30 percent support. The other parties do not exceed 12 percent.
