The campaign for Saturday's second round of the regional elections has ended with an election moratorium now in place, the TASR newswire wrote.
Campaign activities are banned 48 hours before the beginning of voting and on election day. The elections of regional governors will begin at 7:00 on Saturday, November 28 in Bratislava, Trenčín, Banská Bystrica and Prešov regions. In the remaining four regions, governors were elected in the first round on November 14.
In Bratislava region, the second round will decide between Pavol Frešo (endorsed by the Slovak Christian-Democratic Union SDKÚ, Christian Democratic Movement KDH, Party of Hungarian Coalition SMK, Civic Conservative Party OKS and Freedom and Solidarity SaS), who received 41.29 percent of votes in the first round, and sitting region head Vladimír Bajan (endorsed by Smer, Movement for Democratic Slovakia HZDS, SZS and Movement for Democracy HZD) who received 29.49 percent in the first round.
In Trenčín region, the seat will either go to Pavol Sedláček (HZDS, Smer, SNS) or Martin Fedor (SDKÚ, KDH, SaS, OKS), with 45.55 percent and 29.72 percent of the votes cast in the first round, respectively.
In Banská Bystrica region, the contest is between Vladimír Maňka (Smer, HZDS) with 35.4 percent of the votes in the first round and Jozef Mikuš (SKDU, KDH, OKS, Conservative Democrats and SaS) who had 28.8 percent.
In Prešov region, voters can choose either Peter Chudík (Smer, HZDS, HZD, SZS - 47.17 percent) or Ján Hudacký (KDH, SDKÚ, Sas - 24.66 percent of the first-round votes). TASR
