ELECTIONS: An election precinct commissioner dies on the job

Though the first round of the presidential election in Slovakia was peaceful, with no irregularities reported to the Central Electoral Commission, one member of the election precinct commission in the town of Turčianske Teplice had a heart attack during the day of the voting. The 73-year old member of the commission had been nominated by the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ-DS) party, the SITA newswire reported. The sad circumstances, however, did not stop the voting process since the precinct still had the required number of commission members.

The course of the elections was also disturbed by an accident in the border city of Komárno where a commission member fell and broke her arm after fainting. She ended up in the hospital. But in Komárno also, the balloting in the precinct continued in a normal way, according to the TASR newswire.
