Elections set for September 20-21

Parliamentary Speaker Jozef Migaš is preparing to request the legislature set the date of fall elections for September 20-21, reports the Pravda daily paper. Migaš’ office has refused comment.

The speaker is required to announce the ballot not later than 90 days before it is due to happen, leaving Migaš about four weeks before he must officially set the date.

Slovakia is unusual in having two-day elections, but legislators explain that a rule limiting balloting from 07:00 to 18:00 would not leave people sufficient time to cast votes were the polls only open for one day.
