Electronic signatures by end of year

Following cabinet approval of Sk65 million for the launch of an ‘electronic signatures’ regime, the state is preparing to recognise electronic documents on the same level as paper documents by the end of this year.

A law enabling the change was passed in May this year. The electronic signatures rules will allow citizens and businesses to transact business over the Internet (such as filing taxes or signing contracts) by issuing each a special electronic code that will have the same legal weight as a physical handwritten signature.
