The Ministry of Transport, Postal Services and Telecommunications plans to revise the Electronic Toll Law through an indirect amendment to the law on road transport. The purpose is to enable automatic toll purchases by infrequent users of certain sections of highways. According to the current law, each vehicle using the toll roads must be equipped with an On-Board Unit (OBU). The device automatically calculates the route length and the sum to be paid.
MP Peter Pelegrini (SMER) presented the revision at the parliamentary session.
The aim of the amendment is to lessen the administrative burden associated from the requirement to equip the vehicle with an OBU unit from occasional haulers. The MP explained that given the fact that the introduction of the electronic toll collection is planned for January 2010, there is not much time left for achieving the solution and thus he chose this possibility.
