Employees working for Slovakia’s Labour Offices have been on strike alert for two days as their demands have not been met by their employer, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (ÚPSVaR), the TASR newswire reported.
"We can't see any other way to have our justified demands met," stated the petition committee that said it represented around 5,200 employees working at labour offices in Slovakia.
The statement of the committee said that the job centres where they work have been marginalised in terms of financing and personnel for a long time. The Labour Ministry and ÚPSVaR responded that the labour offices do not have sufficient financial resources to meet the employees’ demands, which include a reduction in workload, salary increases, and larger budgets for the job centres.
