Employment in industry increased 4.9% since January

In January 2007, employment grew the most in the auto sales and maintenance sector, where a year-on-year increase of 17.6 percent was reported. According to the Slovak Statistics Office's report, employment also rose in the retail sector where 7.4 percent growth was reported. Employment in the wholesale sector went up 6.2 percent and 6 percent in hotels and restaurants. There was a 5.6 percent increase in construction, 2.2 percent in real estate, rental and other public services, and 2 percent in transport. For the first time since December 2005, more people were employed in industry, which saw a growth of 4.9 percent. Employment also grew in the telecommunications sector and postal services. The telecommunications sector reported a growth of 7.5 percent and the postal services had a growth of 0.7 percent.
