The Cabinet approved the Energy Charter, a measure intended to produce equality among domestic and foreign corporations on the energy markets of countries joining the treaty, according to an official at the Energy Charter headquaters in Brussels. The charter, expected to come into force sometime during the second quarter of 1997, will open foreign markets to Slovak companies, which until now had been protected by restrictive market policies. The treaty will become valid after ratification by 30 members. Slovakia has already ratified the document.
