The swimmers crossed the Danube from the PKO complex on the left bank to the right bank in Petržalka wearing orange swim caps, the TASR newswire learnt. As Ľuboš Fellner, guarantor of the From Pole to Pole festival claimed, the event has been conceived to draw attention to the importance and beauty of the Danube River.

“There are only a few things that we have better than Parisians or Londoners, but our Danube is a bigger and more beautiful river – in this, we’re better off," he said.

Passers-by and helpers were able to watch dozens of swimmers cross the river, reputed to be cold and dangerous. The transport on the Danube was stopped for the time of swimming – which lasted for about 15 minutes, the festival website informed. This “zero” year of the event is planned to be followed by more events in the upcoming years.
