EU Commission: No comment on possible expropriation of energy firms

The European Commission said on August 25 that it was not ready to comment on declarations from the Slovak government concerning the possible expropriation of the country's energy monopolies as a way of keeping down energy prices. "We can only emphasise that under single-market investment rules, there can be no discrimination between private and state-owned businesses,” EC spokesperson Amerlia Torres said. “This is a general rule and all that I can comment on right now."
