EU entry campaign gets Sk30 million

The cabinet has allotted Sk30 million ($700,000) to a campaign in favour of EU entry ahead of a referendum on the topic planned for June 7, 2003. Slovakia, along with nine other candidates, expects to receive an invitation to join in December.

Meanwhile, following Slovakia’s invitation to join Nato, a poll taken by the state radio channel from November 12 to 18 showed only 47.2 per cent of respondents in support of joining the Alliance, compared to 39.1 per cent against.

Support for EU entry is running just below 70 per cent in most polls.
