The European Commission has decided to withhold 10% of PHARE and ISPA project funding for Slovakia for this year (i.e. 2.3 million out of 23 million euros) until the results of an investigation into alleged misuse of EU taxpayer money are known.
Government Office employee Roland Tóth and former Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Pavol Hamžík were fired over the scandal this past spring; the case is now being investigated by Slovak police and the EU anti-fraud office (OLAF).
