EU-harmonised inflation accelerated from 4.3% in June to 4.4% in July

Slovakia's EU-harmonised inflation rate accelerated from 4.3 percent in June to 4.4 percent in July, the Slovak Statistics Office said on August 14.

Slovakia's EU-harmonised inflation rate accelerated from 4.3 percent in June to 4.4 percent in July, the Slovak Statistics Office said on August 14.

The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages led the July rise, increasing by 9.7 percent year-on-year. Other large year-on-year increases were: in health care, 9.4 percent; in hotels, cafes and restaurants, 5.5 percent; and in transport, 4.9 percent. The only reduction was registered in the prices of postal and telecommunications services, which fell by 0.9 percent.

Compared to June, harmonised prices were largely flat in July, with only those in recreation and culture showing a substantial month-on-month rise of 1.5 percent. Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages fell by 1.2 percent on the month. Healthcare prices were down 0.6 percent, while those of clothing and footwear fell by 0.5 percent. Inflation calculated according to local methodology accelerated from 4.6 percent y-o-y in June to 4.8 percent in July. Core inflation stood at 5.1 percent in July, while net inflation was 3.8 percent. In the January-July period, meanwhile, consumer prices averaged a rise of 4.3 percent year-on-year. TASR
