Inspectors from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) began an audit of the Slovak Aviation Bureau on March 15, the TASR newswire was told by Transport Ministry spokesman Stanislav Jurikovič.
“Auditors will inspect the aviation staff licensing, the development and manufacturing of the airplanes as well as their maintenance and operation,” said the Aviation Bureau Director, Petr Brůna, in a written statement. “The audit wasn’t launched because of any shortcomings on the part of the Aviation Bureau.” A team of 15 EASA inspectors is carrying out the audit which is set to be completed by March 19, with the results to be known by June.
Jurikovič, however, refused to answer questions of the daily Sme and the Czech daily MF Dnes in reaction to the story in Sme on March 15 stating that the audit was a result of the Bureau’s failings. Brůna later denied this information for the SITA newswire.
“It is a planned audit aimed at checking the licensing of aviation staff, developing and production of airplanes, airplanes’ maintenance and operation,” Brůna told the SITA. The EASA confirmed his words, Sme daily wrote on its website on March 16. The audit’s result will be announced to the Transport Ministry and the European Commission. TASR, SITA
