Slovakia’s coalition parties are not the only ones trying to persuade the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party to support changes to the European Financial Stability Fund (EFSF) and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) as SaS has received a letter from the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR), which asked SaS to change its opinion, according to SaS spokeswomen Tatiana Tóthová.
Meanwhile, the chair of SaS party, Richard Sulík, defended his party’s arguments against the European bailout mechanisms in a talk show broadcast by the Austrian television ORF, Im Zentrum, the TASR newswire reported. Sulík told the Austrian audience that help for Greece does not lead anywhere since creating additional debts will not solve the situation while he suggested that the only way out is bankruptcy by Greece. He also reconfirmed that his party will not change its attitude towards the ratification of the changes, TASR reported.
President Ivan Gašparovič called on parliamentary deputies to be aware of their responsibility for ratification of the changes to the EFSF and ESM and said he would once again meet leaders of all the parliamentary parties or address the deputies of the parliament directly, the SITA newswire reported on September 18.
