The European Parliament is asking the European Commission to make money from the EU Solidarity Fund available as swiftly as possible to help regions hit by the record floods in several EU member states, the SITA newswire wrote.
“We have asked the Commission to immediately adopt steps to ensure making available the necessary financial resources as swiftly, effectively and flexibly as possible by the EU Solidarity Fund”, reported MEP Vladimír Maňka (Smer) to SITA.
According to the MEP, the European Commission should also be flexible in negotiating revisions in the regional operational programs for the years 2007 to 2013.
