Eurostat reports Slovakia had highest employment growth in Q4 2006

The European Union's Statistical Office, Eurostat, said that among the twelve member states for which data was available for the fourth quarter of last year, Slovakia saw the greatest growth of employment, growing by 0.8 percent from Q3.

In the fourth quarter of 2006, the number of employed persons in the EU, which had 25 members until the end of last year, increased 0.3 percent from the third quarter. In Q4 the employment rate in the EU increased 1.6 percent year-on-year to 206.7 million. Among the 18 states that provided their data to Eurostat, the country with the greatest employment rate growth was Latvia with 4.9 percent.

Slovakia, with 2.2 percent growth, came in fifth within the European Union.
