A SURVEY from the European Union’s statistics service, Eurostat, shows that Slovakia’s jobless rate in October 2005 decreased 0.1 percent month on month to 16.2 percent, the SITA news agency reported.
Despite the decrease, Slovakia remains next to last in terms of unemployment in the EU. Only Poland had worse results posting a jobless rate of 17.6 percent.
However, Slovakia ranked among countries with the most significant year-on-year drop in unemployment. In October 2004 the jobless level was as high as 17.8 percent.
The average unemployment rate in the EU remained unchanged, at 8.5 percent, in October 2005.
