The independent MP Juraj Miškov has announced the founding of a new political party called SKOK – or the Slovak Civic Coalition. He has already asked the Interior Ministry for registration and it should be officially announced next week.
SKOK is to be a liberal-civic party, and several politicians, as well as famous personalities outside the politics are expected to join.
“When I entered the politics in 2009 as a successful entrepreneur, I wanted to help make Slovakia a prosperous country,” he told the SITA newswire. “I sacrificed my private life, a lot of time, energy and own resources for that. I am ready to do everything for my dream. I believe that there are enough people like that in Slovakia.”
Miškov has until May 22 to collect 10,000 signatures of citizens, necessary for registration; until he manages to do that, the Interior Ministry will block the name, or abbreviation, so that it is not used by any other party or political subject.
Miškov, together with four MPs - Jozef Kollár, Daniel Krajcer, Juraj Droba and Martin Chren – left the NOVA party on September 23. They became MPs on the slate of the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party, but left it on April 16, 2013. Then, five MPs and about 75 members left the party, announcing that they are founding a liberal platform Liberal Agreement / Liberálna dohoda meant to be a civic association. Five MPs then joined NOVA where they formed a liberal faction that ceased to exist in June.
