The Speaker of Slovak Parliament, Pavol Paška, and Norbert Lammert, his German counterpart opened a multimedia exhibition at Bratislava Castle named “The Wall Is Gone – The Velvet Revolution and the Ending of Separation”, on the evening of May 18, the TASR newswire reported.
The exhibition presents the long and hard process of Germany’s unification with photographs and over 100 short films showing historic moments such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the dismantling of the famous Checkpoint Charlie border crossing, meetings between politicians and the atmosphere on the streets of Berlin.
According to Lammert, the fall of the Berlin Wall was a great symbol, because the end of Germany’s separation heralded the end of the separation of Europe.
“The fall of the wall wasn’t the beginning, but a continuation of a long-term process that culminated in revolutionary changes,” said Lammert for TASR.
