Wondering how to keep warm during the frigid Slovak winter? Wondering what to do about your ever-expanding waistline, a product of Slovakia's delicious beer and tasty vyprážany syr? The Slovak Spectator has the solution to both problems: join our runing group and work up a sweat in the chilling months to come.
Anyone interested in participating knows that it can be tough to find motivation to train when the mercury drops below zero and you don't have any friends courageous (or foolish) enough to brave the elements with you.
That's why The Slovak Spectator is organising a running group. Whether you're just out for a spin, training for the November one kilometre run in Petržalka or gearing up for the Danube Marathon in April, now's the time to find some running friends.
Every Sunday, starting October 31, The Slovak Spectator running group will meet at 11:00 in front of the Hotel Danube in Bratislava for a weekend jog. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to seasoned marathon runners, including all levels, ages, ambitions, and shapes.
Running courses may vary from the paved walkway along the Danube to the hills of Bratislava's Forest Park, but will be tailored to each person's abilities and interests.
Listed to the right are the major runs scheduled throughout Slovakia for the month of November. While many of our group may have no interest in racing, others may find it an exhilarating way to spend a Sunday.
While the Spectator, located in Bratislava, is unable to organise running groups for expats in other Slovak cities, we would like to open the communication lines to all our running readers. If you are a runner in Slovakia and would like to organise a running group where you live, let us know and we'll try and put you in contact with others who share your interests.
If you are interested, show up in front of the Hotel Danube at 11:00 on Sundays. You'll know you're in the right spot when you see the Spectator's Editor-in-Chief, Tom Nicholson - he's the big guy with the red beard who has often been spotted jogging across the country in yellow spandex shorts.
