Explosion rocks railway station restaurant in Čierny Balog

The restaurant in the Čierny Balog railway station, in the Upper-Hron region in central Slovakia, was rocked by an explosion June 19, Bernadetta Múdra of the communication department of Fire- and Rescue Corps’ Presidium informed the TASR newswire.

“Firemen are now extinguishing fire in the restaurant in Čierny Balog,” she said. “The explosion caused later a fire in the restaurant. Firemen from Brezno are on the spot.”

At the time of the explosion, only two people were present: a man (66) and a woman (32), who were injured, suffering burns, treated by rescuers and transported to hospitals in Brezno and Košice. Banská Bystrica Regional Police spokeswoman Petra Vašková said that police have been investigating the case.

“In the case of explosion, police has opened prosecution for crime of public threat,” Vašková said. “The damage caused by explosion was calculated at about €100,000. Due to preliminary information, the statics of the building was gravely damaged. All circumstances and the precise cause of the explosion are being investigated by experts.”

It was gas that exploded in the restaurant, TASR wrote.
