ŽILINA authorities have received the initial proposal for the expropriation of the land on which the future Kia car plant is intended to be built, wrote the SME daily.

Before expropriation can begin, a local construction office must rule whether the investment can be considered as being in the public interest.

However, Eugen Kozáček from Žilina's construction authority told SME "in our opinion, all the necessary conditions are satisfied so that we can agree with the expropriation".

Economy Minister Pavol Rusko said that so far 919 landowners have not sold their land, and that 450 of the unsold plots are smaller than 10 square metres. Around 20 percent of the total 220 hectares for the future Kia plant has still not been settled.
