Speaker of Parliament Pavol Hrušovský on Wednesday, February 22, called an extraordinary parliamentary session to be held on February 29. At the session, MPs are set to deal with legislation concerning military districts as well as EU funds and public procurement, both of which were submitted via fast-tracked legislative proceedings.
"I decided on this move because in terms of law and constitutionality I consider it to be the only solution,” said Hrušovský, as quoted by the TASR newswire, when explaining why he had called the session.
Asked whether the extraordinary session's agenda would touch on recent issues relating to the near-collapse of the tax administration system, Hrušovský said that this would become clear once the parliamentary finance and budget committee had concluded its MPs' inquiry. The main reason why EU funds were included in the session is that urgent measures need to be adopted in order to more effectively draw on the funds.
