Sweden, Holland, Ireland and Denmark have said they will permit citizens of new EU members to work in their countries immediately following enlargement in 2004, while Great Britain plans to do so within a maximum two years of entry. Even Austria, which with Germany had been the main backers of a seven-year delay in the free movement of labour from new member countries, has said it does not expect the seven-year period to be applied by any current EU member.
