ROBERT Fico, the chairman of the opposition party SMER has accused the ruling coalition of buying independent MPs support for its proposals for Sk15 million (€390,000) and more, the daily SME reported.
According to Fico, MPs Miroslav Abelovský and Ján Drgonec, are set to earn several million crowns from legal assistance to the owners of land on which the KIA car plant will be built.
The cabinet recently announced that it would pay the owners the difference in price between the official estimate of the value of the land, and what the owners would like to get for it. In April former Economy Minister Pavol Rusko proposed the same solution concerning KIA, but at that time the cabinet rejected it.
In response to Fico’s accusations, Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda called a press briefing and invited Fico for a public TV duel. The SITA news agency reported that Dzurinda called Fico’s allegations nonsense. He wondered aloud why Fico informed the media and not the law-enforcement authorities about his concerns.
MP Abelovský called Fico a legal dilettante and is considering suing him.
