SMER chairman Robert Fico had refused to speculate on the upcoming parliamentary elections, but stated over the weekend that the new Slovak cabinet would probably be made up of the current coalition and some opposition parties.
Analysts say that by admitting the possibility, Fico is sending out a signal to voters that he would be willing to engage in a dialogue between the two camps, SME wrote.
But political analyst Miroslav Kusý believes the statement is a "calculated tactic" to draw at least one of the current coalition parties into government, as a coalition composed only of the current opposition parties, such as Smer, The Movement for a Democratic Slovakia and the nationalist Slovak National Party, would not be advantageous for Fico.
