Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the price of electricity in Slovakia could be lower, the SITA newswire wrote.
Therefore, the price of electricity should not be one of indicators that might influence sustainability of inflation in Slovakia in the future, he said.
"I have a different opinion on electricity price growth. If we consider the cost of generating electricity in Slovakia, it is among the lowest in the EU,” he said on April 29. “But prices are among the highest in the EU due to the messed up privatisation and various mechanisms set up by the previous government.”
The price of electricity for household customers last increased as of the beginning of this year, when it rose 2.86 percent on average. According to dominant power producer Slovenské Elektrárne, prices could have grown by 10-11 percent this year, but it managed to limit growth by contributing Sk800 million, which it agreed on with power distribution companies and the government.
