A replacement for the outgoing Defense Minister František Kašický, who resigned due to inflated tenders announced by his department is known, writes the economic daily Hospodárske noviny.

The daily writes that Prime Minister Robert Fico confirmed he had three nominees for the vacancy. He named Defence Ministry State Secretary Jaroslav Baška and Interior Ministry State Secretary Jozef Buček, who are both SMER-SD nominees. The third candidate for the post is still anonymous, but the PM insists that the new minister should not be a parliamentary deputy.

The replacement for Kašický should be announced on Wednesday, January 30. The SMER-SD already said they are interested in Kašický's services after his recall. He could continue either as a security advisor in governmental structures or he could be sent to NATO military structures in Brussels. The Defence Ministry should shed more light on the tenders when it reveals the list of bidders.

The ministry wants to publish the list of bidders in one of the inflated tenders today, at the order of the outgoing minister. Deputy Prime Minister Dušan Čaplovič said that it was necessary to find a man who would be able to purge the ministry of people who also worked there under the previous government. SITA
