Slovak Premier Robert Fico wants the Constitutional Court to be focused more on serious cases rather than solve many individual topical issues involving elections and protracted proceedings, he said during an official visit to the Constitutional Court in Košice on September 25. During the trip, he also met with Constitutional Court Chair Iveta Macejková and constitutional lawyers.
Several kinds of cases could be dealt with, for example, by the ombudsman and regular courts, while the Constitutional Court should concentrate on the most important issues that concern the Constitution, basic rights, and compliance with the law.
Fico also said the Government had no right to ask the Constitutional Court to fast-track some issues, but that it would welcome faster action in cases connected with legislation on providing evidence of property origin. TASR
