PM Robert Fico met on June 25 with the vice president of Electricité de France (EdF), Marc Boudier, to talk about electricity prices for next year. EdF owns a 49 percent stake in the regional power distribution company Stredoslovenská Energetika (SSE). "The prime minister told us that he would like to avoid a steep growth in electricity prices in Slovakia. We will do our best to prevent large increases, but we insist that other entities involved in electricity prices do their part as well,” Boudier said.
The prime minister refused to specify on the issue of prices. "Of course, we discussed prices but at this stage, that’s not news to you,” he said.
Talks on future electricity prices started after dominant Slovak power producer Slovenské Elektrárne’s (SE) first wholesale auction of electricity for next year indicated prices could rise by 28 percent.
