PRIME Minister Robert Fico (Smer) still appears to be the most suitable presidential candidate for Slovaks, the results of the poll conducted by the Focus polling agency show.
The survey, which was conducted between October 8-15 on a sample of 1,014 respondents, revealed that if presidential elections had taken place in the first half of the month, as many as 37.8 percent of those surveyed would have voted for Fico, the TASR newswire reported.
Next came Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) candidate Pavol Hrušovský on 17.9 percent, followed closely by independent candidate Andrej Kiska on 17.6 percent and former KDH and now independent MP Radoslav Procházka on 15.1 percent.
KDH founder Ján Čarnogurský, running as an independent candidate, would garner 7.7 percent and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) candidate Peter Osuský 3.9 percent of the vote.
Meanwhile, nearly 60 percent of the respondents would have gone to polling stations, with 22.9 percent replying that they were certain as to whom to give their vote. Conversely, 18 percent said that they would rather not participate in the election.
