THE CHAIRMAN of the opposition party Smer, Robert Fico, remains the country's most trusted politician, according to an opinion poll conducted between July 1 and July 8 by the Slovak Statistics office.
Of the poll's 1,248 respondents, 22.9 percent said that Fico was their most trusted politician, the private news agency SITA wrote. Trust in Fico has not dropped below 20 percent since February of last year.
Vladimír Mečiar, the leader of the opposition party Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, ranked second with 13.6 percent trust and Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič is third with 13.2 percent.
The Hungarian Coalition Party leader, Béla Bugár, ranked next, enjoying the trust of 12 percent of respondents.
Smer's Monika Beňová scored 6.3 percent, KDH leader Pavol Hrušovský garnered 4.9 percent, Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda 4.8 percent, and Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan 4.4 percent.
