ROBERT Fico, the leader of the opposition Smer party, is the most trusted Slovak politician, as 21 percent of 1,210 respondents in a poll carried out by the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) think tank supported him.
Ex-PM and leader of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) Vladimír Mečiar came second with 12.4 percent, followed by Hungarian Coalition (SMK) chairman Béla Bugár with 9.8 percent support.
In the survey, carried out between September 17 and 23, Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan, an aspiring president, ranked fourth with 7.7 percent. Liberal Pavol Rusko, head of the ruling New Citizen's Alliance (ANO), scored 4.9 percent, Christian Democrat (KDH) Pavol Hrušovský was popular with 4.9 percent of respondents, and PM Mikuláš Dzurinda ranked eighth with 4 percent.
Compared to IVO's figures from February this year, Dzurinda lost 5.9 percentage points, the biggest decrease of all politicians included in the poll.
As much as 34.3 percent of respondents did not trust any politician.
