IF THE USA showed an interest in establishing a military radar station in Slovakia, Prime Minister Robert Fico would unambiguously forbid it.
Fico's comments, coming shortly after Poland and the Czech Republic tentatively agreed to having such a base, came during his short visit to Prague on January 23.
The USA turned to Slovakia's neighbours requesting permission to build anti-ballistic missile defence systems sites.
"As chairman of the Slovak Government, I wouldn't agree with placing radar systems or rockets in Slovakia," stated Fico during an informal lunch with former Czech PM Jiří Paroubek and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder - both Fico's soc-dem peers.
Fico explained his stance by saying that Slovakia has the right to take such a position. At any rate, Fico added, such a base would not contribute to improving Europe's security situation.
