Finance minister calls SDKÚ presentation a ‘pseudo-list’

Finance Minister Ján Počiatek said on May 13 that the list of overpriced tenders that was presented by the strongest opposition party SDKÚ earlier in the day is a mere pseudo-list, as reported by the TASR newswire. “There are items that are not related either to 2008 or to 2009 and there is a summary of various theoretical figures that don't clarify much. It is difficult to take any stance on this list,” Počiatek told journalists.

“There are items that are not related either to 2008 or to 2009 and there is a summary of various theoretical figures that don't clarify much. It is difficult to take any stance on this list,” Počiatek told journalists.

The Finance Minister was reacting to the comments of SDKÚ vice-chairman Ivan Mikloš who said that Slovakia is losing nearly €2.65 billion due to overpriced tenders and other misspending of public resources.

“The figures that are from budgets, and those that can be verified, clearly show that the management of the state as a whole is constantly improving,” said Počiatek, as quoted by TASR.

At the same time, he declared that he isn't opposed to the ideas of the opposition aimed at increasing the effectiveness of managing public resources. But according to Počiatek, the recurring effort of the opposition, and especially SDKÚ, is to paint the current economic crisis as being solely a local phenomenon. TASR
