Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš (SDKÚ) announced on Monday, August 16, that he will submit a document at the government session scheduled for Wednesday to set aside €11 million for local authorities to tackle the aftermath of floods that hit part of the country, the TASR newswire reported.
Government ministers are also working on additional extraordinary measures aimed at facilitating rescue and relief work in the areas affected by the floods.
“We’ll submit these measures at the government session on Wednesday, August 25,” Mikloš told TASR, adding that Prime Minister Iveta Radičová (SDKÚ) is coordinating the whole process even though she is on holiday in Croatia at the moment.
Heavy rains on August 15 caused floods mainly in the Upper Nitra area, with a third-degree flood alert remaining in place.
