The police have detained Vladimír B., an employee of the Financial Administration, who was illegally helping companies to apply for excess VAT deductions worth nearly €400,000. Even though the police announced the arrest on June 19, the details were not provided to the press until June 21, the SITA newswire reported.
“There were unauthorised interferences into the information system of the Financial Administration where he created forms through which he tried to legalise the fictitious transactions during the tax controls,” said head of the Financial Administration František Imrecze, as quoted by SITA, adding that with such actions he marred the controls.
Imrecze added that they have already stopped paying the VAT deductions to the companies involved.
Police President Tibor Gašpar added that they uncovered this case thanks to another investigation that they are currently working on, SITA reported.
Vladimír B. faces 10 to 20 years in prison.
