Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny admitted on Wednesday, June 9, that the highway project may not be financially closed on Friday, June 11, because of Brussels' objections to the environmental impact of the construction in the Turany-Hubová section.

“I do not know yet. We are in talks with the European Commission. We have sent the last reports that justify steps taken in this area and we will see,” the minister told SITA, adding that the ministry is awaiting the response of the European Commission. The minister said the relevant Slovak legislation as well as of the EU directive on habitats was fulfilled, as the ministry introduced additional compensatory measures.

If this environmental issue is resolved the highway project can be started, the minister said, adding that a different governing coalition that might come out of the upcoming election could halt the PPP project.
