THE HOUSE of MOST-BRIDGE, a non-profit organisation that assists the mentally ill, is celebrating a milestone, its director, Andrea Beňušková, told the SITA newswire on February 3.

The organisation recently arranged its first flat in Bratislava for two mentally ill men, who will stay there to learn to live independently. The flat is in the Dlhé Diely section of the city, and has enough space to house another two people.

Daniela Adamková, who runs the organisation’s apartment project, said the men are going to spend between six months and two years in the flat working with caretakers who will help them achieve goals such as learning to cook. The fact that the men will have to contribute €100 of the flat’s €800 monthly cost, as well as continue to take medication and attend therapy sessions during their stay, will help them become more self-reliant, she said.

The organisation has already opened flats for the mentally ill in Lozorno, a village near Bratislava, and Rimavská Sobota, a town in southern Slovakia.
