FinMin: State aid down in 2013

THE OVERALL volume of state economic aid provided to business entities in Slovakia in 2013 reached €290.74 billion, down by 1.71 percent year-on-year, according to a report presented by the Finance Ministry.

THE OVERALL volume of state economic aid provided to business entities in Slovakia in 2013 reached €290.74 billion, down by 1.71 percent year-on-year, according to a report presented by the Finance Ministry.

"The total amount of state aid was reduced by €5.06 million (1.71 percent) year-on-year in 2013. Significant reductions were recorded mainly in support provided to small and medium-sized enterprises - 94.04 percent, education - 79.31 percent, and transport - 66.42 percent," reported the Finance Ministry as quoted by the TASR newswire.

The largest portion of state aid was made up by subsidies and non-returnable financial contributions - 72.63 percent, followed by tax allowances - 27.37 percent.

The biggest share of the money in 2013 went on regional development - 40.73 percent, followed by energy production - 20.09 percent, research and development - 11.84 percent, and the environment - 11.56 percent.
