The Baumax store caught fire approximately thirty minutes after midnight on July 29. The fire started in the warehouse where, among other things, wooden pellets were stored. Because the building had properly built fireproof walls, the fire did not spread to the retail zone.

The fire was extinguished by 37 fire fighters and sixteen fire engines from Košice, Rožňava and Trebišov, as well as fire fighters from the national railway network operator Železnice Slovenskej Republiky (ŽSR) and from U.S. Steel Košice. Three fire fighters were slightly injured. SITA
