Fire at university in Bratislava affected food laboratories

The damage caused by the fire that broke out on the evening of Thursday, May 23 in a Slovak University of Technology (STU) laboratory in downtown Bratislava has been estimated at €300,000.

The damage caused by the fire that broke out on the evening of Thursday, May 23 in a Slovak University of Technology (STU) laboratory in downtown Bratislava has been estimated at €300,000.

University spokesperson Andrea Hajdúchová told the Sme daily that the fire broke out in the food laboratories of the nutrition and food evaluation department, which dealt with the research and development of functional foods, particularly cereals enriched by various kinds of health-promoting substances. Allegedly, there was nobody present in the laboratories at the time the fire started, and no one was injured in the fire. Four laboratory spaces and the roof of the building were damaged, according to Sme. The cause is still being investigated.
