First heatwave underway in Slovakia
Slovakia is currently experiencing its first heat wave of the year. Unpleasantly high temperatures on Tuesday—over 30°C in some parts of Slovakia—made many people tired and look for ways to stay cool.
Meteorologists have already issued warnings of high temperatures in southern Slovakia for Wednesday. In the districts of Levice, Komárno, Nové Zámky, and Dunajská Streda, the warning is at level two, as temperatures in these areas could reach 35°C.
Heat with maximum temperatures ranging from 26°C to 33°C is also expected on Thursday and Friday. According to the website imeteo.sk, these days will be more stifling and unpleasant due to higher humidity.
“Shirts will literally stick to you, and ventilation won’t help much. The only relief will be air conditioning,” the website warns, adding that Slovakia will also experience the longest day of the year this week. Moreover, due to tropical nights, people in southern Slovakia are likely to have trouble sleeping.
Thunderstorms are expected to hit Slovakia over the weekend, but temperatures are still forecasted to range from 25°C to 33°C.
