Flood damage estimates in Prešov region adding up

ESTIMATES of the damage caused by floods that hit the Prešov region in eastern Slovakia at the end of July have reached Sk116 million (€2.9 million), but a definitive calculation has yet to be published due to the large area affected.

Veronika Fitzeková, spokeswoman of the Prešov regional government, told the TASR news wire that damage to citizens' property totalled roughly Sk6 million (€150,000).

The damage to state property was about Sk15 million (€375,000), regional governmental property Sk66.6 million (€1.7 million), and municipal property Sk28 million (€500,000).

The damage to roads and bridges is estimated at Sk59.5 million (€2.5 million), while the district of Vranov nad Topľou posted the highest amount of Sk26 million (€650,000).

Representatives of the Prešov regional government have already received financial gifts from two Czech regions totalling 600,000 Czech crowns (€19,140).
