The citizens of Slovak cities Štúrovo and Komárno worked round the clock over the weekend, successfully protecting their homes from Danube river flood waters, which began to recede Sunday afternoon after nearly inundating Bratislava and Danube basin municipalities last week.
Meanwhile, the European Investment Bank said it would offer flood-afflicted Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia up to one billion euros in flood relief loans at low interest and up to 30-year maturities.
