FLOODS that hit parts Slovakia between September 2012 and July 2013 caused damage totalling €12.8 million, according to a report drafted by the Environment Ministry and passed by the cabinet at its October 30 session.
Damage to the property of citizens amounted to over €1.2 million, and €4.1 million for the property of companies, the SITA newswire reported. Municipalities calculated up to €1.9 million in damage, with damage affecting the regional government amounting to €3.9 million, and €1.8 million for the state.
The anti-flood measures cost over €7 million, SITA reported. The Government’s Office and the Finance Ministry will provide funds for several departments which are involved in covering the costs incurred by flood damage, the cabinet agreed at its session, as reported by SITA.
The floods that occured in Slovakia between September 2012 and July 2013 hit an area of over 15,000 hectares and threatened 742 people, 150 of whom were evacuated. Water flooded 1,778 family houses and 51 blocks of flats.
