“The ministry has been monitoring the current situation very carefully. We’re not in a position at the moment to predict the scope and length of potential sanctions by Russia on the European Union. We’ve made checks on the borders stricter, effective immediately, so that [imported] food complies with all due norms in place in Slovakia,” she said, as quoted by TASR.

Foreign press agencies have reported that, as of Thursday, August 7, Russia will ban imports of agricultural products for one year from countries that have imposed sanctions on Moscow, including EU-member states, as well as the US, Norway, Canada and Australia. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced earlier on Thursday that the ban applies to imports of all fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and dairy products.
