Foreign chambers of commerce call for continuation of reforms
THE REPRESENTATIVES of foreign chambers of commerce in Slovakia think that any effort to halt reforms in Slovakia would be bad for the country.
"Our members would regard it as unacceptable and very dangerous if the reforms, which put Slovakia on the right track, were halted. The recent inflow of foreign capital is very significant as well. Halting or slowing reforms would be very risky," said Lívia Eperjesiová of the British Chamber of Commerce.
The chambers have called on the newly elected parliamentary parties as well as the next Slovak government to hold an open and constructive dialogue with the business sector, the SITA news agency wrote.
They have also called for a further improvement in the business environment and for Slovakia to carry out its competitiveness strategy, to invest into human resources and education, make the public sector effective and transparent, and take full advantage of EU membership.
Foreign companies represented in the individual chambers of commerce also wish further steps to be taken to remove barriers to business in Slovakia. They still see difficulties in law enforcement, the access of small and medium-sized businesses to venture capital, the connection of the education system and the needs of the labour market, the introduction of e-government and the absence of basic rules for lobbying.
The new government should also continue to implement a strategy for the introduction of the euro in Slovakia.
The informal association of foreign chambers of commerce in Slovakia include chambers representing firms in the United States, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Italy. They represent more than 700 companies operating in Slovakia.
